The incredibly long-awaited update to the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) Rule dropped this morning with a much-needed amendment to a key section.

The SDA Rule now allows people to share an SDA property with people not eligible for SDA (or NDIS for that matter). This means people can live with their partner, children or friends, regardless of whether or not they have a disability.

For those of you not familiar with the SDA Rule, it may come as a surprise that this was not already the case but this change is actually the result of significant lobbying from people with disability, their families and SDA providers and it represents a long-overdue step forward towards giving everyone the support required to live an ordinary life.

We’re still diving into the detail of the new SDA Rule – stay tuned for our full analysis early next week.
